Introducing the Rise Performance Audit + VO₂ Max
Most VO₂ max tests give you a number. That can be useful — but it does not tell you nearly enough. At Rise Precision Medicine, we have expanded our exercise testing into a much more comprehensive service: the Performance Audit + VO₂ Max.
This is designed for people who want to understand not just how fit they are, but why they perform the way they do, what is holding them back, and exactly how they should train to improve.
This Is Much More Than a VO₂ Max Test
VO₂ max is only one part of your performance. During a comprehensive cardiopulmonary exercise test, we evaluate how multiple systems work together under increasing exercise stress, including:
Aerobic capacity
Performance at lactate thresholds
Cardiac function
Pulmonary efficiency
Lung mechanics
Metabolic function
Peripheral oxygen extraction and muscular endurance
Each system is analyzed individually and given an A-through-F performance grade, helping you quickly see where you are strongest and where the greatest opportunities for improvement may be. We also compare key results with appropriate age- and sex-matched peer data whenever valid reference data are available.
We Also Measure How You Produce Energy
Performance is not just about how much oxygen you can use. We also evaluate how your body fuels exercise. Your Performance Audit includes metabolic fuel analysis, including:
FatMax
Fat oxidation rate
Carbohydrate versus fat utilization
Metabolic crossover
Metabolic flexibility
Heart rate at FatMax
This can be especially valuable for athletes who are training hard but remain heavily carbohydrate-dependent, have difficulty building endurance, or are spending too much time training at intensities that do not match their goals.
Train Smarter — and Often Less
One of the most common things we see is an athlete who is already working very hard. The problem is that the training is not always targeting the system that actually needs improvement. Some athletes are doing too much moderate-intensity work. Others are spending too little time developing their aerobic base. Others need more carefully prescribed VO₂ max intervals, threshold work, recovery, or low-intensity training.
When we identify the weak link, training becomes much more precise.
In our experience, many athletes we work with have improved their VO₂ max by roughly 10–20% while actually reducing their overall training load, simply by replacing lower-value training with personalized, science-backed sessions designed around their physiology.
That does not mean everyone will improve by 10–20%, but the principle is important: More exercise is not always better. Better-targeted exercise is better.
Your Test Becomes a Training Prescription
You will not leave with a printout full of charts and numbers and no idea what to do with them. Your results are translated into specific recommendations, including:
Individualized heart-rate zones
Zone 2 prescription - how much and how often
Threshold training heart rate and recommended duration
VO₂ max interval prescription
Weekly cardiovascular training structure
Recovery guidance
Fueling and nutrition considerations
Identification of your top performance priorities
The goal is to help you spend your limited training time where it will produce the greatest return. With a properly constructed plan, we have multiple athletes in their 50s and 60s who have achieved VO₂ max levels over 50 with about 4-5 hours of cardio training per week.
Who Is This For?
The Performance Audit is useful for competitive athletes, recreational athletes, and health-focused adults who want to improve performance, longevity, or both. It can be especially helpful if you:
Train consistently but are not improving
Want to improve your VO₂ max
Want more accurate heart-rate training zones
Want to improve endurance
Want to improve fat burning and metabolic flexibility to reduce chronic disease risk
Spend a lot of time training but are unsure whether your program is optimized
Want to understand whether your heart, lungs, metabolism, or muscles are limiting performance
Want an evidence-based exercise plan instead of generic training advice
September and October Special: Free RMR + Fuel Use Analysis
For a limited time, we are including an additional metabolic assessment at no charge. If you schedule your Performance Audit with VO₂ Max during September or October, you will also receive a Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) test with resting fuel-utilization analysis for free.
This test normally costs $149.
Your RMR assessment helps you understand:
How many calories your body burns at rest
Your estimated baseline energy requirements
Whether you are predominantly burning fat or carbohydrate at rest
How your resting metabolism fits with your exercise metabolism and nutrition strategy
Combining resting metabolic testing with your exercise metabolic assessment gives us an even more complete picture of how your body produces and uses energy.
Stop Guessing About Your Training
You can work harder. Or you can find out what your body actually needs. The Rise Performance Audit + VO₂ Max combines comprehensive cardiopulmonary exercise testing, metabolic analysis, physician interpretation, system-by-system grading, peer comparisons, and individualized training recommendations into one assessment. The goal is simple: Understand your physiology. Identify your weak links. Train with purpose.
Testing is available on our treadmill or smart trainer at Rise Precision Medicine in Louisville, Colorado.
Schedule your Performance Audit in September or October and your $149 RMR + fuel-use analysis is included at no additional cost.
